It's called NEAT
Updated: Nov 25, 2021

One of our primary goals in life is to remain fit; inactivity is not looked at with favour within our human society.
We also enjoy movement, that is why we exercise. It gives us a sense of accomplishment and a sense of well-being. Our exercises supplement our daily life- Eating, working, and sleep are all enriched by our activity.
But there is another form of movement that enriches us, and we do that every day, called
Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis or NEAT. It is what all of us living beings do when we aren’t exercising, eating, or sleeping.
NEAT can be fidgeting( I know, right?) Walking, Dancing, Getting up and sitting again, and all the other “mundane” activities that we do daily.
NEAT takes up a lot of our daily energy expenditure; we burn energy most throughout the day compared to EAT periods or Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.
So even when we think we are not engaging in exercise when we move around, we are cultivating fitness.
Living beings are governed by laws, laws of physics, and in this case, laws of thermodynamics- We consume energy, and when we have excess energy in our body, it causes weight gain.
Even before consuming, our bodies possess almost limitless energy, so why should our movement be limited to only one form?
Our inertia lifestyle, sitting on a desk without movement, is what is harming us. Only exercising isn’t the be-all and end-all of things - our body needs and deserves movement no matter how small it is and needs it throughout the day.
We are born to burn and burn brightly we must,no matter how small your flame is, it deserves to ignite and burn as brightly as it can.
So move, dance, walk, have fun and become fit. That is NEAT.
